Fermentation of Yeast Lab

This is a multi-part lab where students wiill first use Janus Green dye to observe mitochondria present in yeast cells, then use fermentation tubes to test the ability of the yeast to produce carbon dioxide under different conditions. Examples of variables tested include substrate (starch, glucose, etc) and the use of additives such as magnesiums ulfate and sodium fluoride.

Essential concepts: Cell respiration, ATP, mitochondria, fermentation.
